Learning and loving English

“Numerous are the academic chairs, but rare are wise and noble teachers.”
                                                                                                                Albert Einstein, 1954

My philosophy on teaching English to students is, in order to make them learn I must first make them want to come to my class. A class that students want to attend is one that is interactive, interesting, motivating, accepting and just plain fun. A teacher should be knowledgeable of each and every one of his/her students. They should know each students learning style, strengths and weaknesses, hobbies, and family and living situation. To know all of this about each student helps  to understand them and to acknowledge their individuality. If a quarter of the class reads at a lower level than the rest of the class is it fair to give them all the same level of reading? I would hope most teachers would agree that it is not. How then does a teacher instruct in such a diverse classroom of learners? Accommodations are the key. Accommodate the lessons with the lower level readers in mind. For example, group the students by ability and change groups often so that the weakness has a strength to help when needed, thus allowing a weakness to become stronger and social skills to develop.
